Intersection
Permission to Come Aboard
Launched in 1903, the elegant Edwardian schooner-rigged motor yacht Romola ended its years of service submerged in a Scottish harbour. Sold as incidental scrap as a parcel with its surrounding docks, its new owners set about a meticulous 16 year restoration that was finally completed this spring. Brass polished, oak and cherry wood varnished, glass bevelled and crystal cut to receive a new generation of guests in its original style, the spirit of a venerable gentleman's club afloat has resurfaced.
Intersection hosted guests at the Cannes film festival aboard Romola, taking to choppy seas for the occasional booze run around the Cap. At sea, they say size matters most, and onlookers like to measure your millions by the foot. But judging by the admiring glances we received from those stranded aboard ferry-sized, plastic-looking gin palaces, the vintage yacht's understated class made it the toast of the coast. Look out for more nautical excursions soon.
